9th Coal to MEG Conference 2018

Dear Sir or Madam:
-- The Advantages and Prospects of CTMEG in the Context of Oil Price Recovery
In 2017, China’s MEG production was more than 6Mt, net import was about 8.6Mt. Coal to MEG (CTMEG) has become an important part of China’s MEG capacity, and started the large-scale application in PET industry. According to ASIACHEM’s data, By 2018Q1, China has commissioned 17 coal (syngas) to MEG projects, with the total capacity of 3Mt, accounting for about 1/3 of China’s total MEG capacity.
In 2017, the business climate of China's PET industry has rebounded and its profitability has been enhanced. The effective capacity reached 50Mt, bringing good opportunities for CTMEG industry. The strong rebound of oil price since 2017H2 has greatly enhanced the competitiveness of CTMEG. In 2017H2, the average market price of MEG in East China reached 7,350 CNY/t, making the CTMEG profitable.
China’s CTMEG plants have generally achieved high load and stable operation. Driven by good market prospects, proven technologies available and modest investment thresholds, the investment in China's CTMEG project is accelerating. ASIACHEM’s research shows that by 2021 China will build a total of 47 coal (syngas) to MEG projects, with the total capacity of 12.38Mt.
CTMEG quality and cost advantages have in fact been recognized by PET industry, the leading PET producers are actively seeking to build their own syngas to MEG plant. The technological R& D of CTMEG via oxalate route is developing toward the directions of large-scale, low cost, high selectivity, long catalyst life, and environment-friendly. Meanwhile, research and application of high value downstream products of DMO such as polyglycolic acid (PGA), ethanol and diphenyl carbonate (DPC) are also actively promoted.
9th Coal to MEG Conference will be held on April 26-27, 2018 in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. The conference will focus on CTMEG competitiveness & investment opportunity in the context of oil price recovery, high load stable operation & technical innovation of CTMEG commercial plant, CTMEG application experience in PET industry, progress of novel CTMEG technologies, industry influence of MEG futures market, DMO high value downstream products, etc.
